Benefits of Antilock Brakes
By Ron Haugen
There has been much discussion on weather the antilock brake system is a good thing or not, because a recent study shows that drivers who have it on their cars don't have necessarily less accidents, compared to those who don't have the system on their cars.
This is probably due to two reasons: the drivers are overconfident, and think they're protected against most traction risks, and by lack of knowledge and understanding how the system works.
Many people think that a car that has antilock brakes stops at a shorter distance than others that aren't equipped that way - but this isn't quite true, and you must always keep in mind that, for the system to work, you have to brake hard enough.
Even with these two major setbacks, antilock brakes are a great choice for your car, and help out prevent many accidents when used correctly.
- They stop on slippery surfaces: More specifically, they brake on ice. What happens is,, they prevent the car from locking and skidding on the road, even in the most slippery conditions. This allows you to keep control of your vehicle, and save your own life and others.
- Lower costs: It lowers the cost of your insurance. How? Simple. This is a very high tested device, with a very amazing track record of success and of being effective. Exactly for these interesting reasons, the insurance companies give customers discounts for having antilock brakes system on their cars.
They trust you'll have less accidents with this, and they won't spend money on any repairs or have any problems with you as a client.
- You earn more when you sell it: Having Antilock brakes system (ABS) included in your car or truck, will make it much easier for you to get more money for it when you intend to sale. Given that today it's an important part of any vehicle, if you don't have this system, you can end up with a lower price when selling.
- It controls traction: Antilock brakes system usually uses the traction control system of your car. This new technology helps make sure that each wheel has enough traction. The manufacturers install both features when they build it in the factory.
- Keep you safe: It's true that the statistics show that ABS system doesn't necessarily means that you'll be invincible on the road. Yet, the odds of avoiding life threatening accidents on the road are pretty good. Bottom line is, today it's better to pay up a bit more for your car and make sure it has this system included, than to risk your luck and opt for no system at all.
